FACILITIES
Marine centre of CEMACS located at Teluk Bahang on the northwest coast of Penang Island equipped with facilities such as: Teaching laboratory. Wet laboratory. Number of hatcheries for culturing of fish and other marine organisms. Small laboratories for phytoplankton, microbiology and media kitchen. Most of the laboratories are supplied with high quality sea water, compressed air, standard laboratory equipment as well as computer facilities. These are particularly suited for studies on larval biology and seed production, experimental ecophysiology and ecotoxicology studies and mariculture.
CEMACS also equipped with scientific equipments such as: Nutrient autoanalyzers. Research microscope systems. Field equipment includes wave and tide recorders, fluorometer, echo sounder, current meter and global positioning system. For underwater research, the station has several SCUBA diving equipments.
CEMACS has several boats for transportation and research purposes.
CEMACS Reference Collection Museum is equipped with marine-life museum which comprises mollusks, gorgonians, corals, fishes, crustaceans and herbarium collection of flora around the Penang National Park.
This centre is also well equipped for programs such as training courses/workshops for groups up to 25 scientists or 60 students. Conference room for 50 people. Accommodation facilities include self-contained flatlets (25 max. capacity ) as well as dormitories (60 max. capacity). Canteen will be operated during workshop/seminar and field course.
